The Preparation of the Gospel

How God Prepares People for the Gospel

Acts 10

Mark Kolchin

The conversion of Cornelius in Acts 10 provides every serious student of the Word further insight into the way that God works in people’s lives to bring them to Himself—first, by preparing their hearts to receive the Gospel and secondly, by preparing the hearts of His people to give it. It also shows how He brings the two together and how He conveys and confirms the Gospel message. In short, it presents another magnificent example of His wonderful work of salvation.

A Solid Work

“So I sent messengers to them, saying, "I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down. Why should the work cease while I leave it and go down to you?" Neh. 6:3

Nehemiah’s commitment to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem had been challenged on numerous occasions. Perhaps the greatest came when his enemies invited him to leave what he was doing to respond to their accusations. Firmly resolved to complete his task,, Nehemiah stayed where he was. Challenged to come down from the cross, our Lord responded similarly. Knowing what lay ahead, “He endured the cross”, firmly resolved to the finish the work the Father gave Him to do (John 3:34) His heart’s response was the same: “I am doing a great work so that I cannot come down.” Mark Kolchin

Done is the work that saves, once and forever done;
Finished the righteousness that clothes the unrighteous One. -- H. Bonar

About Us

Who We Are

Know the Word Ministries Inc. is a Christian non-profit organization dedicated 1) to spreading of the Gospel of Lord Jesus Christ; 2) to strengthening, challenging and encouraging the Lord’s people everywhere through the teaching of God’s Holy Word, and 3) to helping, comforting, and restoring those who have strayed from the path of faith and commitment to the Lord.

What We Believe

  • That there is one God existing in three co-equal and co-eternal Persons; the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit;
  • In the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin birth and sinless life;
  • that apart from Christ, mankind is in desperate and urgent need of salvation but that God has made provision for the individual through faith alone in Christ’s finished work on the Cross and bodily resurrection from the grave (Romans 10:9); that Christ is presently in Heaven from which He will someday return for all true believers;
  • In the Holy Scriptures as the uniquely inspired Word of God and the only rule of faith and practice;
  • In the resurrection of the body; the eternal joy of the saved in Heaven and the eternal punishment of the lost in Hell.

The Intercessory Work of Christ – Matt. 14

“And it was now dark, and Jesus was not come to them.” John 6:17
“ And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.” Matt 14:25

It had been a long day of ministry. Having fed the multitude, the Lord sent them away while making His disciples get into a boat as He went up on the mountain to pray. But while the disciple’s were at sea, a storm arose greatly hindering their progress. Four adverse conditions prevailed: they were tossed by the waves, the wind was contrary, they were far from land and it was dark—and He had not yet come to them. But when all seemed hopeless, deep in the night He did appear, offering words of assurance. (John 6:20) Adverse conditions may likewise be prevailing in our experience, hindering our spiritual progress. But rest assured dear friend, the same Lord, who you may not see now, sees you and is also praying for you. He will come to you in time and make His presence known. -Mark Kolchin

Ev’ry day, He comes to me with new assurance, More and more I understand His words of love;
But I’ll never know just why He came to save me, Till some day I see His blessed face above.” - Weigle
